WHO WE ARE

D-Structure are a new start up engineering practice, drawing on a wealth of previous experience developed within established engineering practices, such as WSP, Sinclair Knight Merz, Ramboll and Whitbybird. We have recently merged with another engineering practice KTA based in Orpington on the outskirts of London


We are involved in a range of projects across the UK, working with a number of commercial and private residential clients in London and the surrounding counties.


The practice carries professional indemnity insurance that is appropriate to the type of work that we undertake. We are registered Chartered Members of the Institution of Civil Engineers.

 

WHAT WE DO

We have an excellent track record in delivering private residential, commercial developments, sports, railway, industrial gantries, power station facilities, laboratories and higher education research facilities.


We actively engage with our clients, their architect and the rest of the design team to understand the needs of all parties and to offer best advice on structural form. We combine this knowledge with communication with the site contractor to understand materials and skills availability. This engagement and our professional approach aids delivery of efficient architectural and structural arrangements; cost effective use of space and materials, and build-able structural solutions.

 

OUR CAPABILITIES

Planning advice

We can attend your site or home and carry out a visual survey which we can use to prepare a feasibility study for your proposed development. Based on this information we can prepare preliminary design sketches or drawings as well as construction sequence sketches or drawings and a construction management report which can be used as part of a planning application submission.

Detailed design

Following on from a preliminary design we can further coordinate and develop the structural details with your design team to prepare a detailed set of structural drawings, specification of structural elements and a set of structural calculations for building regulations approval

Construction support

During the construction phase of your project we can review tenders, attend site meetings and carrying out site inspections and prepare regular reports to ensure that the design is being followed on site.

 

Temporary works design

We can visit site and coordinate with the main contractor and the permanent works design to provide a temporary structural design for building stability during refurbishment, or provide propping to retaining walls during excavation works. Design solutions will be provided as drawings or as sketches along with calculations.

Steelwork connection design

We can use the design team drawings and models to coordinate with the steelwork contractor and fabricator to develop workable set of steelwork connection designs, for which we will provide fabrication sketches or drawings. We can also use the structural analysis model to extract additional loads for additional connections to aid buildability and frame sequencing

Reinforcement detailing

If you need steel reinforcement detailing drawings and schedules we can prepare these from our own designs and drawings or from another consultants RC intent information

 

Damage reports

We can visit your site or house and carry out a visual inspection and produce report advising on any structural damage and the possible causes. We can advise on remedial works or replacement works. If required we can arrange specialist surveys and liaise with loss adjusters.

Resident Engineer

We can provide a resident engineer role and perform inspections and report back to the client on the main contractors performance on site

CAD Drawings

We can prepare sets of AutoCAD drawings based on building surveys and site sketches. The drawings can be developed to a level of detail to suit your needs, whether it be for planning application submission, detailed design, building regulation submissions or construction level information.

 

PREVIOUS PROJECTS

Netherhall Gardens, London

Residential flats

We were requested by the main contractor on this high end residential project to take on and complete an incomplete design of a complicated roof steel frame design from another engineering practice. Following a coordination process with the original engineer and design team we provided a set of construction and fabrication drawings for the steel erectors to work from and deliver the remaining section of this project.

Residential flats/ Temporary works

As a sub-consultant to another structural engineering practice we provided temporary steel work walling beam and cross strut propping design for this double level basement excavation

Holloway Road, London

Residential

As as sub-consultant we provided the design sketches and building regulation calculations for the removal of structural walls at ground level to open up the space at this residential property, and provided a design for the roof extension and dormer window to the rear of the house.

Private residential, Chichester

Residential

For this residential project for opening up the ground floor space by removing a structural wall we provided structural calculations and sketches for building regulation approval. Demonstrating that the load spread from the walls limited the load increas on the foundations to an acceptable low percentage increase that the existing foundations were adequate without any modifications, significantly reducing the build cost and length and disruption caused by the works

South Way, Watford

Residential

We provided advice, design drawings and calculations for building regulations for the removal of the ground floor rear external wall and a number of internal structural walls to allow for a large kitchen and dining area extension to the rear of the property.

Hillsleigh Road, London

Residential

We provided retaining wall design for this residential property in London where a rear garden garage was to be built up against an existing masonry retaining wall. We provided a design that prevented any additional lateral loading being applied to the existing masonry retaining wall.

 

PREVIOUS PROJECTS

Meadowbank, London

Residential

Through our relationship with the main contractor on previous projects we were asked to attend site to inspect a complicated steelwork connection and provide a buildable design solution to allow the works to progress on site. We liaised with the design team to understand the function and loading's of the structure around the connection in question and delivered a set of calculations for building control and a buildable steel connection which was fabricated and installed.

Crockenhill Road, Orpington

Residential

We provided design drawings and building regulation calculations for approval for this internal structural wall removal to open up a cramped kitchen and dining room into an open airy kitchen diner space. We provided a buildable design that could be installed without the use of heavy lifting equipment.

Wray Lane, Chichester

Residential

Working with the contractor we made a site inspection and scheme designed the permanent works for the proposed removal of an existing external wall to open up the kitchen space into an existing rear extension. We supported the contractor and provided construction sketches and supporting building regulations calculations for approval. The key to the scheme was to limit the need to carry out any moidifications to the foundations, so we demonstrated through load spread how the load increase on the existing foundations was minimal and therefore no modifications were required below ground. this significantly reduced the cost and length of the construction works.

As a sub-consultant we provided steelwork connection designs for the main contractor on this project

Private residential, Aberdeen

Residential

For this residential kitchen refurbishment project we provided building regulation calculations for the opening up of a solid granite wall from the rear kitchen into the main house area. We demonstrated that the loading's onto the party wall were minimal and that lateral stability was not compromised by removing the wall and that the existing foundations were adequate for the load spread without the need for strengthening. this maintained the build cost to a minimum and reduced the disruption and length of the build

Hotel, Warwick

Hotel & Restaurant

We provided the design for the re-modeling of various spaces within the hotel, allowing for several rooms to be opened up by removing structural walls

Waterloo Road 1

Retail

We provided structural engineering design for the re-modelling of this central London retail unit, allowing the ground floor and lower ground floor to be leased as separate units. A new steel staircase was required along with several areas of infill slab structure.

Waterloo Road 2

Commercial

We provided a structural design for the proposed new cantilever canopy to the main reception entrance to this central London office space building.

Private residential, London

Underpinning

As a sub-consultant to another structural engineer we provided a set of AutoCAd drawings for a series of internal structural alterations including the basement underpinning sequence

Wharton Street 2, London

Residential

As a sub-consultant we provided a temporary steel frame design for a lifting gantry for delivery of heavy plant and materials into a basement excavation for the main contractor on a restricted site.

Commercial catering, London

Commercial/Restaurant

For the remodelling of the ground floor dining area of this gastro-pub by designing a ground floor extension and by removing a structural wall to open up the ground floor space.
